What are good strategy games that work offline with no account?

By Mert Yerekapan, maker of Midterms 2026 · Updated 2026-10-28

Plenty do, especially single-player strategy games. Midterms 2026 is one I made: a free iPhone election game that needs no account, saves progress on your device and works offline. Games like Mini Metro and Polytopia are also known for being easy to play without a login.

Why offline matters

If you play on flights, in the subway or somewhere with bad signal, a game that checks in with a server every few minutes is a pain. A required account is another friction point. I wanted my game to open and play, so I built it that way.

The store listing doesn't always make it obvious, so here's what I'd look at:

About Midterms 2026

Midterms 2026 is free, and the game itself works offline. There's no account, and your progress saves on the device. You found your own party with a name, logo, colors and a leader, then have 20 turns before Election Day to build state offices, hold rallies, go on TV and handle donor offers. On election night, 35 Senate races and all 435 House seats are counted.

Because the game runs on your phone, a full campaign takes well under an hour wherever you happen to be.

What I'd do

Those three habits save more frustration than any list of titles.

One caveat. Even a game that plays offline may show ads or sync purchases when it finds a connection, and that's normal. The key question is whether the game itself runs without one, and that's the part worth testing in airplane mode.
