Is there a game where you try to win Congress instead of the presidency?

By Mert Yerekapan, maker of Midterms 2026 · Updated 2026-10-28

Yes. Congress Infinity by 270soft focuses on legislative races, and Midterms 2026 is a free iPhone game about winning the House and Senate. Most political games chase the presidency, so these are less common.

Why so few games cover Congress

I think it's a design problem. The presidency is one clear prize with one winner. Congress is 435 House races and a Senate map, each with its own mix of voters. That's harder to explain and harder to show on a screen.

It's also more interesting once you see it. A party doesn't need a majority in every state to matter, and in a close House a small group can decide who runs things.

What to try

How Midterms 2026 handles Congress

Midterms 2026 gives you 20 turns of campaigning, then election night. The vote includes 35 Senate races and all 435 House seats. A goal bar tracks your progress toward 218, the number of House seats you need for a majority.

You don't play an existing party. You found your own, so you're the underdog between the Democrats and Republicans, who are computer rivals that push harder as you grow. To win seats you open state offices, hold rallies, go on TV and handle offers from interest groups.

There are two ways to win:

In the game, a 50-50 Senate goes to Republicans, which is a rule I set for the simulation. The map shows who leads each state, and there are live projections labelled "Senate if the vote was today" and "House if the vote was today".

What I'd do

If you want deep real-world detail, play Congress Infinity on a computer. If you want a quick lesson in how Congress is actually won, one state and one seat at a time, give the iPhone game a try. It's free, works offline, and a campaign takes well under an hour.

The thing I hope people notice is how different it feels to chase 218 seats than to chase one big prize.

If you want to go beyond games, the House and Senate both publish who holds each seat on their official websites, and you can compare that to what the game shows you. Seeing a real map next to a simulated one makes the structure click.
